since I'm at it...my favorite album cover...
and easily one of my favorite duets.
Jim Hall and Bill Evans, "Undercurrents"

Tal Farlow

Tal was one of my parents best friends...he wrote the amazing and beautiful song, "Lorinesque" in honor of my father, Lorin Stephens. Things have been more than a little bad around these parts...so I turn to the man with frying pan hands, Tal, to save my soul...the guitar in the top picture was made specially for an early color TV broadcast...this was when Tal was in the Red Norvo Trio with Red Mitchell on bass. The guitar is red, Red's bass was green, and I haven't a clue what color Norvo's vibes were (I have kodachrome slides of Tal and Red Mitchell playing in my parents living room after a gig in Illinois, clearly Norvo didn't come with them, hence the vibes mystery)...anyway, I loved Tal, he was always very very kind to me...and the music he left is a balm for sorrow.
